Lunar Eclipse: Service or Servitude, Vision or Fear

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

As I write this, today’s Lunar Eclipse is nearly finished but its effect will carry on for several days or actually a couple weeks until the New Moon/Solar Eclipse on September 11th. With the Sun in Virgo and Moon in Pisces at the 5th degree, the issue of service vs. daydreaming is front and center.

In Pisces, the moon is dreamy and imaginative. Uranus currently in the same sign may be encouraging more futuristic thoughts and ideas lately, yet the Sun in Virgo has more practical aims. What is really useful in this moment and what is the most efficient approach are Virgoan concerns.

This Lunar Eclipse, however, puts greater weight on Pisces. Perhaps you’ve been putting the details of life (Virgo) ahead of time for reflection, meditation or visioning. Have you been trying to control a situation rather than letting go and seeking inner guidance. Is it possible to open up to spiritual inspiration that brings new insight and meaning? (more…)

New Moon in Leo opposed by Neptune in Aquarius

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

A New Moon is our opportunity to begin anew each month in some aspect of our life. When it happens in Leo, there’s new creative interests or ways we want to express who we are in the world.

However, the opposition of Neptune to this New Moon confuses things. The good of others gets inserted into consideration of our personal desires. How do we balance both?

As for me, I think I’ll take my confusion to the pool on this sunny afternoon. Forgive me for falling prey to the spaciness of Neptune…or is it the self-indulgence of Sun in Leo.

Meanwhile, for a wonderful explanation of the significance of this particular New Moon, check what Astrologer Lynn Hayes writes at Astrodynamics. Or why not just enjoy the day!

Leo New Moon – Unblock and Flow

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

Have you ever been in the midst of an important project and found yourself blocked? You just couldn’t muster the energy or find the creative juice to complete it. Whether it is something creative like writing an article or something you want to accomplish like building a bookcase, there are times when the task ahead seems Herculean.

No one likes feeling blocked but it happens. You are pushing yourself but it feels like walking through molasses. At times like these, try listening to what your inner voice is saying. My inner voice is often says something like “if you don’t get this right and get it done soon, you are going to look bad or embarrass yourself.”

If your inner voice is worried about how you will look to others, it may be that your ego is too strongly involved – a sure prescription for a muddy outcome or no progress at all.

The best way to return to the ease of moving forward is to shift your perspective from first person to third person. Rather than focus on how to save face or look good to others – the ego’s focus – shift your thoughts to what purpose the project serves. Perhaps it isn’t necessary to do something perfectly, but good enough to serve its purpose.

The second Solar Eclipse of the year is coming Sept 11 (yes, 9/11) at 19 Virgo. Virgo represents the urge toward purification and perfect function, but in the process Virgo’s can be highly self-critical which can then produce “a paralysis of analysis.” On the other hand, Virgo also represents the urge to serve, to work in practical ways to heal the problems that they discern with people, animals and the environment.

Looking out at our society and government, clearly we need more Virgoan attention right now. Fortunately, Sept 2 Saturn moves from Leo to Virgo where it will be for the next two and a half years.

All the Leos out there will be delighted since Saturn has been quite burdensome, taking them away from play and forcing them to face their responsibilities. Next Leos will get lessons in being more responsible with their money, but that’s another story.

What September promises is more awareness of what needs fixing. If as you develop your plans and start to implement them, you find yourself procrastinating or feeling blocked – remember to listen to your inner voice. Is it critical? Is it worried about how you will look or if you’ll be embarrassed? Simply move from first person to third person by remembering what purpose the project serves and get your ego out of the way. So much more can be accomplished.

Valuing time as a contribution

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

Most good-hearted people have a natural desire toward philanthropy. When we give to others, it helps remind us of all the bounty we have. In fact, if you aren’t feeling abundant, you are unlikely to feel you have anything to give.

Yet when you aren’t feeling abundance in your life may be the best time to give for the very reason that it can shift your perspective on your own situation as you recognize there are many who are in much greater need.

A dear friend recently expressed a desire for more financial prosperity so that she could give generously to her favorite cause. Yet this same friend gives tirelessly many hours of service to that cause.  Hum?

Does that mean that money counts but volunteer time doesn’t? Our American tax system treats contributions this way, allowing a deduction for cash given but not for time served as a volunteer.

Spirit doesn’t take such a money-centric approach. After all, money is just a measure of your time and effort contributed to producing a product or service. In my view, volunteer time and effort absolutely build up your “good karma” account as much if not more than a cash contribution.

To get a clearer picture for yourself of what abundance you have and are contributing to your favorite cause, consider what it would cost to hire such assistance.

For example, if you spend just 8 hours a week making calls and holding meetings for your favorite cause, your contribution could be calculated as: 8 hours X $12 (entry-level clerical) = $96/wk X 48 weeks in a year (remember to take vacation) = $4,608.

Have you known that your contribution was that valuable? See how abundant you are!
