Taurus New Moon – Like a Hot Tub in Winter

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

You would have to be a hermit not to realize that since Fall 2008 the whole world has entered a time of upheaval and change. Though the stock market has run up in the last six weeks (compliments of Venus retrograde), the prevailing mood is one of fright as we watch huge cracks appear in the foundation of our economic life.

This mood of “crisis” and “panic” is due primarily to the current opposition of Saturn in Virgo to Uranus in Pisces that continues until mid July 2010. Venus has now turned to direct motion so it is unlikely the rally will sustain, but nevertheless, it is good news I have to share this month.

On the horizon is a planetary alignment that promises to bring optimism, enthusiasm, altruism, visionary insight and make us think that a “fairy tale has come true.”

Late May through July Neptune (inspiration), Chiron (healing), and Jupiter (enthusiasm) will be dancing together in the sign of Aquarius (humanity, community and society) providing an ideal atmosphere for collective vision that moves us away from separated thinking. The time of the “lone wolf” is over and the start of a new ethic for community could well begin. After all, an economic system that runs on competition and greed really needs to transform. The seeds of that transformation are likely to be planted in the next few months.

During this period, Saturn and Uranus will have separated temporarily and Venus is traveling with Mars in Aries, quite a motivated couple.

When I looked inside for a metaphor, I recalled a wondrous experience I had once hopping into an outside hot tub for a relaxing soak while snowflakes were falling on my head. It was still winter, yet my body thought it was summer.

By the same token, for the next three months, we are being given a breather from some of the doom and gloom. It is an opportunity to readjust your approach to living and reposition yourself for the surge of change that will return by September.

However, beware of those who think that “happy days are here again” or that everything has returned to normal. Whatever normal was, we will not return to anything like the past – nor should we. The next 5-7 years we will be transforming our landscape and for me that’s exciting – an opportunity to create a better society.

The economy may seem to be getting better, but it is not permanent and it is unlikely to stabilize. According to financial astrologer Ray Merriman, it could heat up too fast and instead of deflation, we will see large jumps in inflation due to too much money circulating, which means interest rates will rise.

If you have planets in mid-to-late Aquarius, Taurus, Leo, or Scorpio, you will be personally encouraged to renew your belief in possibilities by overcoming handicaps and integrating greater self-knowledge.

For all of us, it is a chance to detach from fear and panic, to let new values (cooperation, sharing, reverence for life) emerge. Now is the time to find and heal the sources of fear within ourselves and to release the love that has been buried beneath. This calls for evolutionary growth. Those who step up to the task of making really new choices will, I believe, weather the winter and enjoy the spring.

So for the next few months, as you lighten up, consider personally preparing by re-budgeting, perhaps remortgaging, and by redefining needs vs. wants. Cut loose erroneous assumptions of what you deserve, addictions to past excesses, flawed concepts, illusion and delusions, and do things differently in a more grounded manner.

By Labor Day, the stress will return, but hopefully we will be better able to see the positive changes that are resulting from refocusing our compasses toward a more practical and cooperative future, having enjoyed some time “in the hot tub.”
