There’s a lot a buzz nowadays about the movie, The Secret. Several of the movie’s stars – including Rev Dr Michael Beckwith who I have had the pleasure of hearing and meeting – appeared on Oprah’s show recently.
Chuck and I were introduced to The Secret over a year ago when it was only available to see on the Internet. As soon as it was released on DVD, we bought copies for us and each of our daughters. There’s no doubt the Law of Attraction which it teaches has a powerful resonance in our society right now.
The Law of Attraction is nothing new, of course. Just as it purports, the mystics and masters through the ages have known that we can attract our good through the power of our creative mind.
But here’s the rub for me: How do I hold in thought what I desire when I am not always sure what I want?
Now many of you may be thinking, how hard is that? You may have a laundry list of unattained desires, but I don’t. Having reached the sixth decade of my life, I am more contented and satisfied with my life than at any point in the past. I am just not focused on acquiring things or measuring my bank balance.
My past desires (a loving husband, beautiful home in a desirable neighborhood, and satisfying astrology career) have been fulfilled. I am settling into the wonder of each day that unfolds with lots of little possibilities and hints at new desires all of which pale in comparison with what I already have received.
Could it be I am more focused on Gratitude than on that which I desire? Seems like a paradox but the more I focus on Gratitude the less I can answer – What do I desire?
